º£½Ç³Ô¹ÏÍø Students,
The º£½Ç³Ô¹ÏÍø Blueprint for Returning to Campus was delivered to all students last week. This message provides some key summary details.
Fall 2020 courses will begin on Thursday, August 20. This is FIVE DAYS EARLIER than our previously announced start-of-class date.
The expectation is that students will be on campus for face-to-face learning and we are configuring our course offerings so that the majority of our courses will be delivered in a face-to-face format. We will carefully manage room and building populations to allow for appropriate social distancing.
Three instructional methods (see below) have been defined. Students will receive additional information about the instructional method for each fall 2020 course before July 10. Students should expect that they will NOT have to re-register for courses.
Club and student activities will be available through the fall, leveraging appropriate social distancing.
Following the Thanksgiving holiday, the campus is open and students, both residential and non-residential, can return to campus. Courses will be remote November 30-December 3, with final exams offered the following week in a remote environment.
Students who have a COVID-19-related reason to seek a reasonable accommodation should work with the Office of Disability Services.
Information on residence hall move-in dates will be available before July 10.
I stress that º£½Ç³Ô¹ÏÍø fall 2020 courses will be offered on campus and will include key instructional methods that leverage technology. The three instructional methods are:
Flex: Primarily a face-to-face learning experience with the ability to access nearly all learning materials through Canvas, the campus’ learning management system (LMS).
Labs-Based: Applies to many C (A “C course is delivered as a combined lecture and laboratory session) courses and courses with labs. The lecture portion of the course may be delivered through Canvas, while the lab portion is delivered in person with appropriate student populations to allow for social distancing and other protections inside the laboratories.
Online Engaged: Applies to courses where the learning outcomes support traditional online delivery, but includes a degree of synchronous live lectures or problem-solving sessions. Students engage in the course with a mix of synchronous and asynchronous activity. Where possible and appropriate, we will be offering both Flex sections of a course as well as Online Engaged sections so that students may choose their primary modality from the outset.
All students are encouraged to join the Provost Team remotely on Monday, June 29 at 5:30pm for a “Student Fall 2020 Update. Information on the Update will posted in the Weekly Phoenix, and I will email all students with a reminder and access information prior to the Update. Also, I am available by email and phone to answer questions.
I hope you are taking advantage of the summer remote Career and Student Development programs. Please watch your º£½Ç³Ô¹ÏÍø email and social media next week for details on Career Development’s new addition of Google-focused programming, and I hope to “seeâ€ many of participate in the Virtual º£½Ç³Ô¹ÏÍø Pi Run that will be held between July 3 and July 5. Register Here for the run.
